Bring Steemit and Blockchain Technology to Universities

Hello! My name is Pablo River!

I just found out about Steemit, but I have been into block chain technology since 2012! Bitcoin was my first stepping grounds and I am still intrigued by the technology. Around two years ago, I started a registered student organization at my university that talked about the advocation of blockchain technology. I will admit, I was a bit nervous on starting the organization because I was worried no one would be interested in joining; I literally thought the only people in my organization would be my friends. Luckily I was wrong and I was amazed with how many students were interested in learning about blockchain tech! In fact, my university does a recruitment event for student organizations every year and my group has had the most sign-ups out of any other organization on campus for the past two years!

Anyways, the group is still going strong! In the past two years we have formed successful meetups in the community to talk about blockchain technology, we threw together an exhibit for a local TEDx event, we have had a member speak at the local TEDx event, we have traveled to several blockchain conferences around the United States, and we have created several decentralized applications and smart contracts (Ethereum).

Since I just found out about Steemit; when the Fall semester starts back up in a couple months, I will introduce Steemit to my university! I want to see this community grow! This will be the new wave of social media!

This is a very brief story about what I have done to introduce blockchain technology to the local community, but the purpose of this post is to motivate you to start a meetup group in your local area or start a registered student organization at your university! Do not let your fears of failure get in your way! There is a lot of people out there looking for new technology and you can be the first to introduce it to them!
