Another one of my learning about investing was my exposure to annuities. In the 90s I was sold some annuities with investment options. When I look back at the funds selected I should have selected the S&P 500.
The overall experience with annuities has left a bad taste in my mouth. Hence, I don’t recommend them. They may have a place in one’s portfolio, but I believe most people would be better off without them. This belief was confirmed as I listen to investor Ken Fisher as he made public his disdain for annuities.
One of his quotations is, “I Hate Annuities… And So Should You!” Ken Fisher’s company invests over $65billion of client assets. Ken Fisher is so confident that annuities are bad for you and his investments are better he will pay the penalty fees if you convert an annuity to his firm.
