The emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) Phenomenon

Kevin Ashton is a technology pioneer who first coined the term “Internet of Things” in 1999. In the 1980s and 1990s, internet and computing technologies evolved so rapidly that the devices and things previously considered dumb would become attachable to the internet. Once programmed and attached to these devices, different sensors and embedded systems converted these devices into the Internet of Things components.

Internet of Things (IoT) in Present Days

Today, billions of devices, from tiny little pills to giant planes to automatic vehicles, are attached to the internet. These devices can freely communicate over the internet and without human intervention. These devices are part of the internet of things by embedding them with modern chip-based sensors. The devices like computers, laptops, and smartphones are not part of the IoT network as these devices are primarily built to communicate over the internet. But, for instance, an electric bulb is once chipped to be controlled on the internet, or an automatic vehicle is once controlled over the internet are examples of IoT devices as neither the electric bulb nor the automatic vehicle are primarily built as the internet’s core communication devices.

Internet of Things (IoT) is a huge robotic network where all the previously dumbed devices can be accessed, communicated, and controlled by using the internet, modern sensors, and embedded and controlled systems. This can easily be predicted that in the near future, more and more standalone devices will become part of IoT and be accessible, communicated, and controlled by using the internet and computing devices.
