I'm looking at trading in our old phones to buy iPhones for my wife and I. She hasn't got on with a single phone since she moved from iPhone and I figured it would be helpful for us both to be on the same ecosystem, etc.
For weeks, I've been holding out for news on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which is coming next month to my understanding. However, over the last few days, I have begun to doubt this decision and I wanted some advice.
A good camera is important to us both. I've read that the 14 will have a 48MP camera, as opposed to the 13's 12MP. However, I've also read that there could be issues in some settings, which puts me off. I must admit camera tech confuses me. I can't wrap my head around the idea that something that has more megapixels may produce worse than something with less if a better sensor is involved, or whatever.
My question is, does it matter? Will it matter? Will the issues be fixed? Will the jump from 12MP to 48MP even be noticeable? Typing it out seems silly, but my brother has the 13 Pro Max and that often produces better photos than my Samsung Note 20 Ultra, which is 108MP. I just don't know.
My second point of doubt is the price. I know these phones cost the equivalent of an arm and a leg. I've found a place (Sky) that will give me the Pro Max 256GB for £39 a month with a £36 upfront cost. My instinct is that these prices will increase astronomically in the case of pre-ordering the 14 Pro Max. I assume the 13 is much cheaper as it has been out longer?
All in all, I don't know what to do. I'd really appreciate some advice. Thanks!
