Should a unilaterally-declared Palestinian state be recognized today by the nations of the world, in the immediate aftermath of Palestinians kidnapping and murdering Israeli civilians -- men, women, and children?
Is that the new norm we wish to establish for ethno-religious groups that seek independence? If you kill enough of "the other," will the nations of the earth then reward you with diplomatic recognition and financial perks?
Should Hamas's kidnapping and murdering Israeli civilians of both genders and of all ages result in the granting of diplomatic recognition for a Palestinian state?
We're not talking about Algeria gaining independence from France, with the Mediterranean Sea to separate the two. We're not talking about the American colonies gaining independence from Great Britain, with the Atlantic Ocean to separate them. Such historical models about vast land masses are not relevant to much smaller areas, no larger than many counties in the United States.
If you've never lived in or visited Israel/Palestine, you might not understand how short the distance truly is between Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, and Ramallah, the capital of the Palestinian Authority. It's only 15 kilometers (9 miles)!
