Fishing living fossils - 200 millions of history.

🇬🇧 Yesterday I drove for about 400 km to reach one of the few lakes where there is still a large number of sturgeon, a prehistoric fish, surviving the dinosaurs, but which today we see in great danger and at risk of extinction. Appeared on earth over 200 million years ago, this living fossil, is likely to disappear due to man. The excessive fishing pressure practiced in past years, the exploitation to obtain the caviar, but especially the modification of its habitat, mainly due to the barriers of rivers, such as dams and locks, those rivers that the sturgeon dates back from the sea to reproduce.

All this have decimated the populations of sturgeons all over the world, in the Po it was thought to have been extinct for years, since its presence wasn't reported from a long time. However, recently some events are hopeful, same silure fishers, have involuntarily captured some sturgeons in the Po, which have been reported to the authorities and promptly released, I can guarantee this, knowing these people in person, who are constantly working for the protection of Italian waters and and not only.

For a lover of nature like me, who practices sport fishing since I no longer remember how many years, it breaks my heart in thinking that a legendary creature like the sturgeon may disappear. I have fished dozens of different species of fish, especially in fresh water, but no one has ever given me emotions like the sturgeon. As you can see in the picture I shared, I captured a beautiful exemplary of Cobice Sturgeon, a wonderful fish, endowed with a peerless force. Its body surrounded by bone plates protects well-developed muscles, in fact its body is very compact to the touch. The aerodynamic shape and the caudal fin of considerable dimensions associated with an explosive force, make it a fish that gives strenuous fights, of great adrenaline.

I leave a suggestion for all the fishermen, if you happen to capture a sturgeon, I recommend if in open water, always warn the authorities to report the place, the presence and the size. In any case the sturgeon must always be release, it is strictly forbidden by law to keep this species in danger of extinction, in some European countries this infraction isn't limited to the legal but to the penale. Also, for your safety, never leave the sturgeon's tail, always hold it firmly with one hand, because if the fish was moving and you hit you with its armored tail, it could also break an arm or a leg. I tell you this from my experience, I still have the scars of a blow suffered by a large one of almost 30kg, in addition to having risked the bone has left me an abrasion as when one slides on the asphalt. 🇮🇹 Ieri ho guidato per circa 400 km per raggiungere uno dei pochi laghi in cui è ancora presente in gran numero lo storione, un pesce preistorico, sopravvissuto ai dinosauri, ma che oggi si vedere in gran pericolo e a rischio di estinzione. Apparso sulla terra oltre 200 milioni di anni fa, questo fossile vivente, rischia di scomparire a causa dell'uomo. L'eccessiva pressione di pesca praticata negli anni passati, lo sfruttamento per ricavarne il caviale, ma sopratutto la modifica del suo habitat, principalmente dovuta ai sbarramenti dei corsi dei fiumi, come dighe e chiuse, quei fiumi che lo storione risale dal mare per riprodursi.

Tutto questo ha decimato le popolazioni di storioni in tutto il mondo, nel Po si pensava ormai estinto da anni, dato che da molto non veniva segnalata la sua presenza. Tuttavia di recente alcuni avvenimenti fanno ben sperare, dei pescatori di siluro, hanno catturato involontariamente alcuni storioni nel Po, che sono stati segnalati alle autorità e prontamente rilasciati, questo ve lo posso garantire, conoscendo di persona queste persone, che si impegnano costantemente per la tutela delle acque Italiane e non solo.

Per un'amante della natura come me, che pratica la pesca sportiva da ormai non ricordo più quanti anni, gli si spezza il cuore nel pensare che una creatura leggendaria come lo storione rischi di scomparire. Ho pescato decine di specie diverse di pesci, soprattutto in acque dolci, ma nessuno mi ha mai regalato emozioni come lo storione. Come potete osservare nella foto che ho condiviso, ho catturato un bel esemplare di Storione Cobice, un pesce meraviglioso, dotato di una forza senza paragoni. Il suo corpo circondato da placche ossee protegge fasci di muscoli ben sviluppati, infatti il suo corpo al tatto risulta molto compatto. La forma aerodinamica e la pinna caudale di notevoli dimensioni associate ad una forza esplosiva, ne fanno un pesce che regala combattimenti stremanti, di grande adrenalina.

Lascio un consiglio per tutti i pescatori, se vi capitasse di catturare uno storione, vi raccomando se in acque libere, vano sempre avvertite le autorità per segnalare il luogo, la presenza e le dimensioni. In ogni caso lo storione deve essere sempre rilasciato, è severamente proibito per legge trattenere questa specie in pericolo di estinzione, in alcuni paesi Europei questa infrazione non si limita al legale ma bensì al penale. Inoltre, per la vostra sicurezza, non lasciate mai la coda dello storione, tenetela sempre ferma con una mano, perchè se il pesce si agitasse e vi colpisse con la sua coda corazzata, vi potrebbe anche rompere un braccio o una gamba. Ve lo dico per esperienza, ho ancora le cicatrici di un colpo subito da un grosso esemplare di quasi 30kg, oltre ad avere rischiato l'osso mi ha lasciato un'abrasione come quando si scivola sull'asfalto. Per cui, questo splendido pesce va trattato con il massimo rispetto e la sua forza non va mai sottovalutata. Spero che questo post sia stato di vostro interesse, un saluto da @stea90.
