WONDER

Wonder, romanzo di R.J. Palacio, non potrebbe avere altro titolo.
“Meraviglia” è ciò che si prova durante la lettura del libro, dinanzi al coraggio di un ragazzino nato con una rara malformazione al viso che rende la sua vita e quella della sua famiglia una lotta continua contro i pregiudizi.

August, detto Auggie, (questo è il nome del protagonista) dopo aver affrontato tanti interventi chirurgici e dopo aver vissuto anni indossando un casco di astronauta, deve fronteggiare il tanto temuto ingresso a scuola. In questo percorso non sarà mai solo, oltre ai suoi genitori lo aiuteranno la sorella Olivia, la sua amica Miranda, il ragazzo di Olivia Justin, l’Amica Summer, l’Amico Jack.
A ciascuno di questi personaggi è dedicato un capitolo del romanzo in cui si mescolano le loro esperienze di vita ed il rapporto con Auggie, in cui viene esaltata la loro grande umanità e i loro autentici sentimenti.
A volte il romanzo appare forse poco reale, ci si chiede se nelle scuole esista un preside Kiap che mette tutto il suo cuore per avvicinare la gente “normale” alla diversità di Auggie, se siano reali amici comprensivi ed affettuosi come Jack e Summer, se esista una famiglia così unita, senza alcun cedimento e mai oggetto di vittimismo.
E’ un libro che si legge facilmente ed in fretta grazie ad un linguaggio molto semplice perché narrato da Auggie e dai suoi amici. Nella sua leggerezza è un romanzo molto profondo che fa emergere la consapevolezza con cui Auggie vive la sua disabilità, il grande amore della sorella che si è sempre fatta da parte durante la difficile infanzia del fratello ed il grande cambiamento di Jack che prima disconosce August (per uniformarsi agli altri ragazzi) per poi pentirsene e riuscendo a riconoscere i veri sentimenti ed il potere disarmante della gentilezza
Un libro da leggere per giungere alla fine ed esclamare: WONDER!

"Wonder" is what you feel when reading the book, in front of the courage of a boy born with a rare malformation to the face that makes his life and that of his family a continuous struggle against prejudices.
August, said Auggie, (this is the name of the protagonist) after having faced many surgeries and after having lived years wearing an astronaut helmet, has to face the much feared entrance to school. In this journey will never be alone, in addition to his parents will help his sister Olivia, her friend Miranda, the boyfriend of Olivia Justin, the Amica Summer, the Friend Jack.
Each of these characters is dedicated to a chapter of the novel in which they mix their experiences of life and the relationship with Auggie, in which their great humanity and their authentic feelings are exalted.
Sometimes the novel is perhaps not very real, one wonders if in schools there is a principal Kiap who puts all his heart to bring people "normal" to the diversity of Auggie, if they are real sympathetic and affectionate friends like Jack and Summer, if there exists a family so united, without any failure and never the object of victimization.
It is a book that can be read easily and quickly thanks to a very simple language as narrated by Auggie and his friends. In its lightness it is a very profound novel that brings out the awareness with which Auggie lives her disability, the great love of her sister who has always stood aside during her brother's difficult childhood and the great change of Jack who first disregards August ( to conform to the other boys) and then regret it and being able to recognize the true feelings and disarming power of kindness
A book to read to reach the end and exclaim: WONDER!
