L'incedere di Tony è maestoso: fa uso del secolare passo di parata. Indossa un vestito grigio con sciarpa di seta bianca, elegantemente annodata sotto la giacca. Il petto in fuori ed il mento rialzato, più del dovuto, spingono il suo capo in alto come a voler guardare il cielo e solo il cielo e non le umili cose che gli stanno attorno. La moglie veste d'azzurro e sta attaccata fermamente al braccio del marito come a voler comunicare ai presenti che "dio glielo ha dato e guai a chi glielo tocca". È un quadretto commovente, melodrammatico! Beba saluta cordialmente per prima chi incontra; Tony risponde agli amici con calma e con l'alterigia di colui cui tutto è dovuto. Sembra seguire un codice che gli impone atteggiamenti che non può tenere l'uomo comune, ma che appartengono solo a lui. Le ombre, però, non devono apparire: rappresentano i vizi, le miserie che devono rimanere all'interno, nascosti. Alla luce del sole, invece devono emergere le luci atte a dimostrare un possesso di elevata civiltà. Osservando attentamente la coppia,saltano, però agli occhi di Francesca due caratteristiche essenziali che rendono visibile la poca luce e la molta ombra. La luce, consiste nella disinvolta ostentazione di una bella coppia; l'ombra, nella dilatazione di quell'alterigia che rende manifestatamente opaco e assai diluito il fascio di luce. La passeggiata si protrae per poco; poi la coppia si ferma al bar per consumare qualcosa e riprendere subito dopo il cammino del ritorno a casa. Si ha l'impressione di assistere ad una rappresentazione vera e propria, sempre la stessa con l'azione degli stessi personaggi che appaiono e scompaiono, mutano d'abito ma non di comportamento. All'inizio del loro soggiorno in paese, la coppia non era sola. Solitamente le faceva compagnia un magnifico dobermann ora misteriosamente scomparso. In compenso Tony si è corredato di uno splendido esemplare di cavallo che, ogni giorno, fa sfilare in paese con lui in groppa o, semplicemente a piedi e che asseconda, retto per le redini, la sua andatura militaresca. Questo modo del tutto irrazionale di condurre un cavallo in centro abitato, per la strada principale, assai veicolata ed attraversata anche da bambini, dimostra l'eccentricità del personaggio che si preoccupa di stupire i passanti, di apparire il re della strada, incontrastato anche dalle forze dell'ordine che, anche se in pensione, lo considerano un loro superiore. I più saggi lo deridono, però per la sua leggerezza e per la sua superficialità e lo fanno degenerare in bizarra caricatura.

The light consists of the uninhibited ostentation of a beautiful couple; the shadow, in the dilatation of that alterity which makes the beam of light manifestly opaque and very diluted. The walk continues for a while; then the couple stops at the bar to consume something and resume immediately after the journey back home. One has the impression of attending a real representation, always the same with the action of the same characters that appear and disappear, changing clothes but not behavior. At the beginning of their stay in the village, the couple was not alone. Usually a magnificent doberman mysteriously disappeared from her. On the other hand, Tony is accompanied by a splendid example of a horse that, every day, has a parade in the village with him on his back or, simply on foot and which follows, by the reins, his militaristic gait. This completely irrational way of leading a horse in the town, along the main road, very vehiculated and crossed by children, demonstrates the eccentricity of the character who cares to amaze passers-by, to appear the king of the street, also unchallenged by law enforcement officers who, even if retired, consider him a superior. The wisest derided, however, for its lightness and its superficiality and make it degenerate into bizarre caricature.

Di un padrone cosi' sciocco, anche il cavallo è stanco e un bel giorno reagisce alle sue staffilate, assestandogli un solenne calcio ad uno stinco e procurandogli un soggiorno all'ospedale dove, dopo un'accurata ingessatura, viene rimandato a casa, alle cure incessanti e miracolose della sua degna Beba. Una nuova tensione carica di aspettative sfuggenti perché sorrette da regole incerte e incomprensibili, si impossessa di Francesca con l'inizio delle indagini affidate a poliziotti che sentono i testimoni e ne verbalizzano le dichiarazioni sui fatti di loro conoscenza.I magistrati al fine di accertare tutte le responsabilità, richiedono i tabulati telefonici attestanti le numerosissime chiamate fatte da Tony in qualunque ora del giorno e della notte. Il suo traffico telefonico del cellulare e del telefono di casa, del resto mai interrotto anche per tutto il tempo di svolgimento del processo, si materializza in mastodontici volumi di carta, di una corposità impressionante. Quello che riguarda Greta è pressoché inesistente. Viene poi fissata l'udienza preliminare per verificare tutte le condizioni che avrebbero portato al processo. Concluse le indagini e acquisiti gli elementi decisivi di prova, Tony viene rinviato a giudizio per tutti i capi di accusa. Inizialmente viene interrogata la parte lesa e anche Francesca, sebbene le dichiarazioni di quest'ultima sono formali perché non hanno grande validità in quanto provenienti da una parente prossima all'inquisita. Seguono poi i testimoni di Greta che sono Irene, Agnese e il padre di quest'ultima, i soccorritori dei malati, sempre presenti nei viaggi con l'ambulanza che riportano dettagliatamente come si sono svolti certi fatti e come Greta era stata psicologicamente e fisicamente perseguitata per svariati anni. In verità la libertà d'azione della giovane donna e della madre, che vigilava su di lei, erano state assai compromesse, annullate:entrambe vivevano nel terrore di incontrarlo e di essere aggredite minacciosamente.

Then follow the witnesses of Greta who are Irene, Agnes and his father, the rescuers of the sick, always present in the travels with the ambulance that report in detail how they took place certain facts and how Greta had been psychologically and physically persecuted for several years. In truth, the freedom of action of the young woman and the mother, who watched over her, had been very compromised, annulled: both lived in terror of meeting him and being threatened aggressively.

Era tanta la tortura interiore che anche Francesca avrebbe voluto affrontarlo, lanciarsi contro di lui con le unghie affilate. Come invidiava la forza maschile!!! come si rammaricava della sua impotenza!!! Altri testimoni, amici di Greta, mettono in evidenza le iniquità, le prevaricazioni, le violenze psicologiche di cui erano rimaste vittime per averla difesa. I testimoni di Tony negano di avere assistito ai suoi appostamenti, agli inseguimenti, ai comportamenti criminosi compresa la diffamazione, di cui viene accusato. Affermano di essersi trovati raramente in sua compagnia e di non averlo sentito blaterare pubblicamente contro di lei. Un'unica volta aveva avuto parole offensive ma nei riguardi di una donna forestiera, incontrata nella città dove si recava, consuetudinariamente, per le cure termali. Diventa lapalissiano, anche per i giudici, rendersi conto che si tratta di testimonianze false,rese da persone non attendibili, sicuramente ricattate dietro compenso.
