This is a district that contains Cornell University and probably votes 80-20 Democrat!
I think this is a harbinger of electoral realities to come in November. We’ve had hard economic situations or large tax increases in Ithaca before, and school budgets with large tax increases went through anyways. For the first time in my life a budget that the teachers union endorsed failed, and it failed HARD!
That means people are really hurting economically, and ultimately that’s what they’re gonna vote based on in November. To be clear, I don’t think Trump wins Ithaca or even comes close. But I think the number of voters who are changing their priorities in light of the economic situation is a lot greater than conventional wisdom suggests. This is looking more and more like a comfortable Trump win.
