Today I was a reunion with my high school classmates, talking about those times where only as students we shared many activities in one of them came the project requirement required by the Lyceum to graduate from Bachelor of Science, and came to the forefront of my admired Dr. Jacinto Convit For that moment of year 1983 we chose as the main theme the disease of Leprosy, there was a moment when we asked ourselves "Where do we start ?," thanks to the help of the mother of one of our companion Dr. Maria Bastidas knew where our Great scientist. She explained how to get there.

                             Biography

Dr. Jacinto Convit García was born on September 11, 1913 in the city of Caracas (Parroquia la Pastora). He was a physician and scientist, the son of Flora García Marrero and Francisco Convit y Martí.

He married Rafaela Marotta D 'Onofrio, had four children: Francisco (dedicated to the agricultural area), Oscar (dies in a lamentable accident), Antonio (Medical Psychiatrist) and Ráfael (Professor at NYU Langone Medical Center and plastic surgeon in Washington Hospital Center.

He was known for his research, teaching and assistance in the area of ​​Dermatology, discover the Leprosy Vaccine and leishmaniasis. Among other diseases that also highlighted Oncercosis and deep mycosis.

In the year of 1987, the Prince of Asturias granted him a Prize for his scientific and technical investigations, next year receives the Nobel Prize of Medicine.

To the 100 years of age, passes away in Caracas the 12 of May of 2014.

The International Leprosy Association appointed him President in 1968 and again re-elected in 1973.

The World Health Organization in 1971 was appointed Director of the Cooperative Center for the Histological and Classification of Leprosy.

At the beginning of the decade of the 80, enters the National Academy of Medicine of Venezuela. Due to his experience, research receives national and international recognition. Among them, the National Prize of Sciences in the specialty of medicine, granted in 1980 by the National Council of Scientific and Technological Investigations (CONICIT).

The Venezuelan National Assembly approves a project of his investigations and his works, in the centenary of his life and work in the year 2003.
