So here I am just casually watching some anime of this upcoming season(some months have more new anime released than others, January? Well, shiaaat, January is a good month for anime fans. And this January? Well, DAMN. so much good shit is being released, like, wow) *ahem* anyway, so here I am watching Yuru Camp, and as the OPening song begins, wtf do I hear? I tell ya, I hear what most definetly sounds like some kinda rework of the Jackson 5's - I want you back.
Now, being easily distracted, I start youtubing the different covers of the song. And I gotta say, I found a lot of really cool versions of it. BUT, before we jump into all that good shit:
Yuru Camp OP TELL ME that shit ain't starting like a cover for "I want you back" GO AHEAD, TELL ME. YOU CANT, CAN YOU?! CAN YOU?! Right. So you see, it was natural of me to get distracted. But before we go into the actual covers I love... I gotta say, I only became aware of "the jackson 5 - I want you back" as the "original" many years after I heard it first, as something entiiirellyyy different. You guys remember that movie with michel piper? "Dangerous Minds", right? Here's actually the version I first came to know this song as Rappin 4 Tay - Message for your mind(starts at ~22nd second).
Right'o, so check these covers out:
KT Tunstall - This sounds realllyyy good to me. I like this kind of voice, and tho I associate it more with "jazz", it is a pleasure to hear this girl perform this song like that.
Whitney Lusk - This is more of a traditional rendering, tho the voice sounds to me somewhat processed, I gotta say, sounds very good, and loyal to the original way it was sung. Wow, incredible.
Lake Street Dive - I dunno what's that style called? Jazz? "Street Jazz"? Guys, I mostly listen to death metal / EDM, wtf do I know about knowing music styles(Rick and morty reference? CHECK!)? xD, all I know is that this sounds like a very different version of the original, in a very good, and interesting way. I feel like this version widened my way of thinking about what is possible to "pull off" on any song. Pleasure to listen.
Fabienne - Ok, so, this isn't the greatest of versions, what I found very appealing here is that the kid seems to be pretty much as young as michael jackson was, when he sang the original version(or close to it). This isn't something I'd listen to - but I felt like including it *wait what? the girl isn't American, she's german? - as I'm writing this, I kept listening to the song, and now they're talkign german, haha, somehow it makes it more special*
Sara Niemietz & W.G. Snuffy Walden - This is a very cool version of the song, it's a mix between KT Tunstall and Whitney Lusk, in my mind. I gotta say, visually, what I find most appealing in this performance... are... those... HEADPHONES. goddamn, they look really awesome. *drools*. Ahem, a really cool version, toatally worth a check.
Warblers(I Want You Back Scene) - This is the #2 funnest version to watch, I really enjoyed the performance. And I suppose I'll have to watch whatever movie this is from.
Abandoned By Bears - Ok, I gotta say, this isn't in the top 3 in this list, even, BUT, I think it is a "polarizing" version: basically, a lot of people who HATE all those others, might really enjoy this one. It's more "metal" or "punk" I guess? It's pretty fun, tho, I didn't like it too much, I hope some of you might :).
Bailey Pelkman & Randy Rektor - Ok, for me? This was probably #1 all-around version, in terms of performance, fun voice, really fun vibe, light hearted... I realllllyyy enjoyed this one. I kinda... Got a crush... On the girl+her voice. She sounds/looks like she's super positive, light person, and lots of fun, warm, positive vibe. And that comes through in the song. I reallllyyy enjoyed it :). Check her other songs out if you liked it :).
That's it for today folks,

Other worthy mentions:
Sheryl Crow - Performing at the white house, Obamas are there checking it out and what not. The performance... Is meh, in my opinion. It doesn't bring much new to the song, I'd say it's a close to the original performance, not my thing, but, I thought it is worth while including this
