(37.75) Decreased tensions in the Korean Peninsula, Japan canceled the drill
Japan has canceled nine civilian exercises for the purpose of reducing tension in the Korean Peninsula on the trump-Kim meeting. By the end of this year, these exercises were to be held in nine areas of Japan. Keeping in mind the North Korean missile strike, a plan to remove these evacuation drills was planned.
The Japanese cabinet members said that considering the international situation, the government decided to cancel the trial. The official announcement will be made on Friday.
US President Trump meets with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore last week. Both parties have made a number of commitments in the agreement signed after the two leaders, which are expected to reduce the tensions of the Korean Peninsula if implemented.
Meanwhile, the United States welcomes the decision to cancel the trial. US commander of the Asia Pacific region said on Thursday that Washington is committed to protecting Japan.
Earlier, the Trump Administration canceled a military exercise with Japan, there is concern in the country that the United States may not be as committed earlier as to the defense of Japan. However, after the cancellation of the civilian evacuation drill, such concerns were rejected by the top US commander of the Asia-Pacific region, Admiral Philip Davidson. In a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo, he reiterated the US position on this issue.
