Oyaki. Japanese STEEMit comfort food :) [En/Jpn]

Trying out new recipes for a new start :)

The last couple of weeks have been hard because of the break up. After days of no appetite I realized I needed to cook something I have never ate before together with my ex. It was Sunday and there was one tiny piece of dried out zucchini and a small potato...

Just enough to make an oyaki

Oyaki is a type of a filled dumpling, a cousin of gyoza and piroshki.

Oyaki originated in Nagano prefecture and is traditionally made with buckwheat and wheat flour with variety of bean or vegetable fillings.

Ingredients:

  • Wheat flour - 200 g
  • Boiled water - 150 ml
  • Pinch of salt
  1. Mix flour with salt and slowly and slowly add hot water. Mix well.
  2. The dough should be soft as an earlobe [yes, I touched my earlobe to be sure :)]
  3. Wrap in plastic and cool in the fridge for about an hour.
  4. *Prepare the filling, or use left overs. It can be anything you like as long as you get rid of excess moisture. I cut and boiled the potato with zucchini until soft, discarded the water and mixed with some salt and miso paste.
  5. Take out the dough from the fridge, separate into 4 balls. Slightly dust each ball with flour, flatten with your hands and create four round pieces. Put the filling in the middle of each piece and fold from the outside toward the middle to close.
  6. Lightly grease the pan and fry the oyaki on high, until they start to brown, turn on the other side.
  7. Once they are all lightly browned on each side add water, it has to come to about 1/2 of the oyaki
  8. STEEMit ;)

Enjoy!!!

I hope you are feeling better, a break up can be hard, please remain strong, don't look back because your future is bright. 😁🕉

Thank you for your kind words :) Do you have a favourite snack that is easy to cook? I'd like to try as many new recipes as I can right now :)

Hiya, Yes I will have to do a blog for you. Things are a little difficult as I have boxes every where due to moving house. I will sort something for you very soon though. You have a great day!😍🕉
