*Alcohol harassment is a Japanese-English word and means drinkers force alcohol consumption on non-drinkers.

お正月にビールを飲んだ方も多いのではないでしょうか。これから、送別会、新年会にお花見など、ビールを飲む機会も増えるでしょう。しかし、最近はアルコールハラスメントという言葉を度々耳にします。アルコールハラスメントとは、飲みたくない人に無理にアルコールを強要することです。特に日本人は、欧米諸国と比べて、遺伝的にアルコールを飲めない人が多いです。アルコール分解酵素があるかないかで、その人がお酒に強いかどうかが決まります。無理に飲ませると、急性アルコール中毒になるかもしれません。しかし、アルコールはコミュニケーションを円滑にすることもあります。お酒と上手に付き合っていきたいですね。

Many people drunk beer during the New Year, didn’t they? It will be increased that occasion of drinking in New Year parties, farewell parties and cherry blossom viewing party (called Hanami). But, you have often heard a word that alcohol harassment recently. It means that drinkers force alcohol consumption on non-drinkers. Especially, there are many people who cannot drink alcohol in Japan compared to western countries. Presence or absence of an enzyme that dissolves alcohol determines whether you can really hold your drink. If you force aldol consumption on a non-drinker, he/she may get acute alcohol poisoning. But, alcohol has a role to communicate each other smoothly. I would like to have a good relationship with alcohol, don’t you think?
