Beautiful Land Santa Fe
When I visited Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA to see and discuss- the book’s translation details with an author. Where she lives and does her counseling for her clients, there is a view that is exactly like Georgia O’Keeffe’s paintings. It’s a silent, beautiful landscape which I hardly can-express with-words. One day, while she was driving her car, she pointed -out side of a window and said, “ We are still able to see the dinosaurs in this view aren’t we?” I could easily- imagine –dinosaurs- eating nuts from those patchy trees with pretty shapes on the hills of red earth.
Near the end of this stay, we visited the Tsankawai Trail that I had a hunger to visit. When I saw the beautiful indigenous heritage, I lost my words. As I closed my eyes, I could see the image of the people who had lived there and their abundant lifestyle. I thought what we need for us truly is this kind of life. Suddenly I saw vultures circling in the sky when I looked up.

美しい土地アメリカ、サンタフェ
本の翻訳にあたって話し合いをするために、作家の住むアメリカのニューメキシコ州サンタフェを訪れました。自宅兼カウンセリングを行っている彼女の家から見える景色は、まさにジョージア・オキーフ氏の絵画そのもの。言葉で表現するのがもったいない位、静けさの中に広がる素晴らしい景観でした。ある日彼女が車を運転しながら窓の外を指差して「この景色の中に、今も恐竜が見えるでしょ！？」と言いました。広大な赤土の丘の上にまだらに生えた可愛らしい形をした木から、木の実を食べている恐竜のいる風景が容易に想像できました。
最終日が近づいた頃、お願いしていたTsankawiのトレールを訪れました。素晴らしい先住民の遺産を見た私は言葉を失いました。目を閉じれば人々が暮らした豊かで穏やかな生活の風景が目に浮かんできました。私たち人間に本当に必要なこと。それはきっとこんな暮らしなのだろうと思った時、ふと空を見上げるとハゲタカが旋回していました。私の写真コレクションの中から素敵なサンタフェの写真をご紹介します。
