It's great to have older and experienced ones at home. But the disadvantage of always having them available is that the younger ones become over-dependent on them thereby delaying their maturity. It's like a blessing and a curse at the same time to always have people we can rely on. Parents who always assist their children when they encounter difficulties are not really being of great help to their children. Yes, it's helpful to their children in the short-run but in the long run it will prove as unhelpful. You don't want your children calling you every time even when they are married or away from home. Do you? And truth be told, you won't always be available to them. So what happens during those times? Just like you wean your kids from breastmilk at a point because it is in their best interest, it is also in their best interest to learn to solve problem on their own. Experience cannot be taught or bought; it must be wrought. This proverb is not just about parent-child relationship. It's about every young person under training. Are you training someone? The success of a leadership is determined by two things: the quality of products or people it produces and the kinds of problems it solves. Be successful!
