Hello my name is Gwendell Granville,
I'm 40 years old from caribean origin and I live in holland.
My experience has been a near death experience when I was 7 years old.
Me and my mother were living in a appartment in a town called groningen.
There was an elevator there to go to the main hall. We lived on the 3rd floor.
By the time we got to the second floor, there was smoke coming into the elevator and thinks started to get really hot.
By the time we past the 1st floor down to the main floor we could see nothing trough the doorwindow.
Where we used to be able to see the mainhall it was all dark and smoking. My mother wanted to know what was going on,
so she opened te elevator door, where she saw that the whole place was on fire...burning all around.
She then quickly closed the door again and try to push the button back up. But the elevator wasn't working anymore.
Even the lights started flikkering. At this time we both started to panic as the elevator was filling up with smoke. In a far distance we could here people screaming.
COME OUT! RUN OUT! HURRY! COME OUT!
But we where both scared. So then my mother said to me we have to get out now before this elavator burns up and we get stuck.
So she grabbed my hand and opened the door. She waited until she saw the other end of the hall where people were trying to clear a way.
But they couldn't keep it open for too long because the fire would catch oxigen and would get bigger. So then my mom said.
"Next time the door opens, we're gonna make a run for it."
But I said no. I was too scared. But my mother said that I had to. And so when the door opened again she grabbed my hand and started running for it. But I fell in shock and half way there I let go her hand and ran back. So then my mother try to come back but by this time somebody grabbed her and pull her outside. The hall was about the size of 5 meters in lenght. My mother started screaming outside. MY CHILD MY SON...HE IS STILL INSIDE. PLEASE HELP HIM PLEASE PLEASE MY SON SOMEBODY HELP, HE 'S GONNA BURN!
(this is not the real fire but just a picture I took from google to give the reader an idea)
I was really scared. I didn't know what to do. The elevator was full with smoke. I was coffing non stop. I almost fainted. So I duck down since there the air was still clear. I could see them opening the door again. So then I thought to my self this is my last chance. I don't want my mother running back in, or anybody else try to rescue me. So the next time the door opened again. I ran trough the flames. My pants started catching fire. But before I felt anything I was allready outside. The fire people were all around me giving me air and putting down the fire. At this time I was still in state off shock, so they had to take me to the hospital. A couple of hours later I was fine again. And within two mlnths my mother and I moved to another house where there where no more elevators. I still sometimes get a little claustrafobic in some types of elevators. I have got stuck often in other elevators. But I would never forget that moment when I ran trough the dark fire to the other side. I really think at that time my guardian angel was there for me showing me the path to the door and pushing me out. As I have never run that fast and it felt like I wasn't even running but floating over the flames. It's not that I'm superstitious but I do believe we all have somebody whatching over us.
I hope my story was usefull and good reading for everyone who gets a chance to read it.
