Hour of Agony

When Jesus was in Gethsemane in the place of prayer, the Bible records that the agony became so strong as He prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done: verse 42. The Bible says because He was in much agony in the place of prayer, an angel was sent to strengthen Him; the angel ministered to the Lord Jesus and that was not the first time. Remember that after His 40day fast, the Bible records that the devil departed from Him for a season and the angels came and ministered to Him. We didn't hear about their ministering again until another difficult time in Gethsemane. The Bible says the sweat that was coming out of His body was like blood; it was so strong for Him. He was at the point where except God intervened the plan of redemption could be disrupted. Each time I read that scripture, I say to God, “In my hour of agony and pain, let an angel be present”.

Jesus cried to Heaven, ...Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done: Verse 42. He was tired, weak and broken, then an angel came and ministered to Him. In other words, the angel strengthened Him; consequently, ...being in an agony he prayed more earnestly.…Verse 44. That strength must have come from the angel's ministration because He was in distress. People in agony don't pray more earnestly because they despair. For instance, Peter was in great distress in the prison and he slept off, it took the prayer of others – the church - to deliver him,

Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands: Acts 12:5-7.

But unlike man, Jesus prayed more earnestly in the hour of distress, because of strength that came from the angel.

In times of difficulty, people who come to do what ordinary human beings will not do, without strings attached, are angels. If at the point of Jesus’ weakness an angel had to come, you need an angel at one point or the other, whether in form of a human or in form of a typical angel. Ask the Lord for angelic intervention today.
