For the past few days, I have been headhunting for talents needed by our clients. We invested in job portals like Jobstreet, Mynimo and even advertised on Social Media. So resume came in and we shortlisted a few. Now heres the fun part, you schedule them for a phone screening and get a confirmation, only to hear “the number you are calling cannot be reached or out of coverage area!" upon calling on the interview day.
Dear candidates, it is fine if you change your mind or if you are not available as something came up prior to the interview. Here is a tip for you. Call or text the company before you get BLACKLISTED. Do it a day or atleast 2 hours before the interview. This is what we call COURTESY. Just say or text these simple messages:
“I apologize I can’t make it on the interview. I am hoping for a reschedule. Please let me know”
or if you want to halt you application, just say
“I’d like to inform you that I am withdrawing my application. I apologize and thank you for accommodating me!”
That simple! You don’t have to turn off your phone on the interview day or let the phone ring and ring and ring and ring until we hear a beep sound. That is just RUDE.
Just those 2 tips. Remember them to keep your reputation solid and intact. Do not get BLACKLISTED. Believe me, Headhunters wouldn’t mind. At all.
The next time I don’t get a ring and a no answer, I will tell your parents! :-)
