This is what most of the big boys in freelancing do. That's why they never complain about losing a job because they have these tricks up their sleeves.
Before you dive right into this thread, you should know exactly who it's for, so if you aren't among the class of people I'm about to mention, fear not. I have something else for you. This thread is for people with tech skills and a lot of experience applying that knowledge in their field. Outside of this, you should not dive into this; rather, stay focused and equip yourself immediately with some digital skills, then come back here.
Once you have the skills needed, this article will be of help to you, but without them, it is similar to having a gap between you and this piece of information. What holds you back are the necessary skills. So get the skills, get back on this piece, and soar.
If you're not sure where to begin, some skills aren't as difficult to learn and can be learned passively by applying what you already know, and you can multitask them with what you have currently at hand. This could be college, 9–5 jobs, or even maternity calls. If you are in this category, get my e-book about skills and business models and take your time with it. You can also join my community of upcoming techies and grow together.
Now, let's get into the business of the day. Remember, you should have solid tech skills to follow up.
Firstly, Brush yourself up and your skills.
I'll liken this to when you are about to go out for dinner. You won't be seen in rough clothes and stains, followed by strewn hair, and so on. No one wants to look like that. We all want to look like the guy in the clean tux and sparkling white shirt, strutting down the street with his $5000 Rolex.
Now apply that. Brush up your skills and polish your resume with good word choices and satisfying content. Know what your employers are looking for and write that down.
Ex. You won't be writing about your "ability to keep accounts and work with large numbers" when applying for a writing role. Your employers might think you are in the wrong place. Rather, "collaborated with editors to identify project style and tone" will make you seem like you know what you're doing.
P.S. Little things like this could be the reason you aren't even getting mail back.
Master positioning
This is one of the foundations of every business or personality.
There's something called uniformity in positioning, and this has to be done. Did you ever wonder if your employers stalked you? Lol, they do.
Before every recruitment is completed, employers sit down to do serious background checks on employees to ensure there won't be any future character crises.
This isn't a time to paint out your whole life in front of their screens. Keep private things away and delete a lot of unnecessary media. Conform to the rules of decorum and watch the discussions you hop on.
Trust me, a situation where you uttered carelessly from 2018 could make you lose a 2023 opportunity.
Social Media ToolBox
The next step is to choose three social media platforms to use for your professional endeavors. Now, these social media apps must work hand in hand, like the three Musketeers. So let's say "Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Linked In, Twitter, and Instagram." There must always be a place to promote yourself and a way for people to get in touch with you quickly.
You could use Facebook to place ads for your services while showcasing them on the blog, and then bring them to Whatsapp. same thing with Twitter.
Now I presume you have an understanding of that step, lets move unto the next
Knowing your target employer and where to find them
As much as I love using examples to explain scenarios better, you can easily save yourself lots of time and frustration by not looking in the wrong direction. I spoke to a lot of my friends who are making it in the online space, and most of them make regular dough and work consistently. They use a simple trick for this. As a total newbie, most of your consistent jobs might not come from linked in, Rather most of the people you've worked for one way or the other. It's basically getting referred by past clients, friends, schoolmates, etc. People around you who can spread the word. Then you build credibility from there and extend that to your online presence.
Trust me, there's no positivity in hiding what you're doing or being low-key about it especially when it is a legit source of income. Never let the internet pressure you about skills you are learning to generate income for yourself or dictate the ones you should and not do. For example;
Look at this guy replying to a tweet. Anyone with the right positioning could have said that and gotten shaded on the app. Whatever you do, whether right, wrong, or in between, people will always have something to say about it.
People who got dragged on the Internet:
Elon
Kanye, even
'God' got dragged still on the internet.
What makes you different? People will always talk; all you have to do is condition your mind to block out the negativity that comes with it, or else you aren't ready for success.
