The sound /j/ is the usual sound for the letter y at the beginning of a word. See the following words and try to pronounce the sound /j/ correctly in each of them
you /ju:/
Yellow /jelau/
Yet /jet/

The /j/ sound also occurs before the letter u in words like unoin, use and computer, even though there is no letter representing it in these words. It is the natural sound of the letter (i) in words like view, onion, etc. Now try to pronounce the following words, making sure you make the sound /j/ in each of them.
Use /ju:z/
View /vju:/
Etc.
