Marc Malkin — one of the most beloved figures of the Hollywood red carpet and events scene — is leaving E! after more than a decade. The veteran entertainment journalist, who served as managing editor of film in addition to correspondent duties at E!, has yet to announce his next move.

An E! spokesperson confirmed Malkin's departure on Thursday, telling The Hollywood Reporter that the network is "grateful for his many contributions over the past 11 years, as well as his passion and humor. We wish him all the best in the future." THR has learned that Malkin will not be replaced as his duties will be shared by E!'s team of writers and correspondents covering film across platforms.

Malkin informed colleagues and contacts of the move in an email sent out Thursday morning ahead of his last day in the office on Friday. "After an exciting decade at E!, with over 100 film festivals, nearly a gazillion red carpets and award shows, and countless features and stories along the way, it is with great excitement that I look ahead to new projects and endeavors," he wrote, adding that his next step is soon to be announced.

Later in the day, Malkin told THR that his tenure at E! has been a significant one as it has "truly shaped not only my career in journalism, but my personal life as well." He did, however hint that he will stay in the same lane with a job in entertainment.

"I leave with gratitude for my E! family and a deep appreciation of my industry colleagues — the publicists, agents, managers and most of all the wonderful talent I have been lucky enough to get to know. It's been a thrilling ride, as the entire entertainment landscape changed in the digital and social media era," continued Malkin, who sets off on Friday to volunteer on the cross-California AIDS/Life Cycle in support of his husband and the cause. "I've always said that change is good so now I'm practicing what I preach. I'm not going anywhere. I'm just switching things up a bit."

That's something he has done throughout his career, which he launched as a beat reporter in the newspaper game on the East Coast before segueing to writing, reporting, producing and eventually as on-air talent in Los Angeles. Malkin proved to be a charismatic figure on the scene here, developing key relationships with publicists and actors while building his ever-important social media presence. (At a recent GLSEN event, THR shared a table with Malkin, who was surprised at his seat by Julia Roberts, who made a beeline to speak with him.)

Malkin, repped by CAA and Octagon, is days away from being honored by NLGJA — the Association of LGBTQ Journalists — with the Lisa Ben Award for achievement in features coverage. Malkin will accept the award at NLGJA’s annual L.A. Exclusive benefit event on June 20 at LGBT Center’s The Village at Ed Gould Plaza.

Malkin started his career at Bay Windows, an LGBT weekly in Boston. He transitioned to a job at The Bulletin, a daily newspaper covering eastern Connecticut and based in Norwich. A freelance stint followed before Malkin continued his education with Harvard's prestigious Radcliffe Publishing Course. He then got his first celebrity journalism job working for Premiere magazine in New York, and later helped with the launch of Twist magazine. He wrote a pair of books, including Usher: The Ultimate Entertainer about the life of the Grammy-winning singer.

Before E!, Malkin was best known for his work as a columnist with such credits as the New York Daily News' Rush & Molloy column, Us Weekly's Hot Stuff column and New York magazine's Intelligencer. He moved over to E! after working for The Insider as a supervising producer, where he has contributed across all platforms.
