Dear Katherine,

I expect you already have steemit.com under consideration as a potential revenue source for the guardian. Steemit is a blogging block chain where posters earn cryptocurrency - steem - through their content.

A poster @heymattsokol was talking about it this morning in terms of the New York Times - you would open an account for The Guardian, mirror posting articles which are upvoted (earning rewards), and similarly for comments that are made by other posters.

It's a young site, ranked about 1,500 with Alexa.com, has about a million accounts globally of which 60,000 are active. It has some teething problems, but also huge growth potential.

I've been a member for just under a year, I'm still learning how it works, but I was interested in the potential for financing investigative journalism. (The trending page is a tragedy - but your influence might help to change that if you were interested in joining the platform).

Best wishes,

Shani

Excellent idea my friend!

Thank you!

I actually mentioned Steemit to a BBC freelancer who writes lovely and interesting travel and curio type articles and editorials for the BBC mainly, but her response was a little muted, as it was from an Aviation journo friend.
I suspect Steemit is a little 'off-base' or rough and ready for the mainstream media at the moment but it would be nice to see a few official media outlets come aboard.
The only one I can think of was 'Engadget' but they don't seem to post anymore.
I am sure that some of the crap posted on here is coming from former Sunday Sport 'journos' however !

I thought the Guardian might be interested as they've had a more progressive approach to digital publishing. But even as I sent it, I thought that much more corporate presentation might spoil what I like about steemit - it's rough and readiness. We won't have to worry, though, my email was returned as undeliverable. In spite of what they say on the website, you can't just email the editor.

This is a good idea that could be applied to other papers and mags (NewScientist and craft mags and sites of course - dream on ... ).
I do hope they share your vision @shanibeer 🌺

New Scientist would be interesting, and I'd enjoy Private Eye, but I think that has always been resolutely non-digital!
