My Journey Into Cryptocurrency.

The journey wasn’t easy nor was it cheap. I have heard about Bitcoins before but I just wasn’t into it due to the fact that there was no reassurance and backing from the goverment. Yes you can say I do not understand what “decentralize” means at the time and I was very skeptical about it. As they say “people always fear what they do not understand”.

Fast foward I started to engage in crypto on 28 August 2017. I got into it because I was jobless at the time and 2 of my friend were already into it and they had recently purchase a GPU mining rig. They convinced me it was good money and that I am looking at returns on investment over a 7-8 months period. They even told me as to how there was a shortage of GPU and how hard it was to get your hands on one at the time. But they are trying very hard to get some for me. After much convincing I finally gave in and agreed.

My friends were great friends, they actually sold me 2 units of gpu model Nvidia GTX 1070 at $600 a piece which was like $110 above retail price and on lazada at the time. I had like $2000 left in my bank and although I had to pay for my house and car installment I took the gamble anyway.

After the purchase I was left to wander on how to get started. No directions were given on how to actually start mining or how to convert the crypto currency into fiat. They basically left me hanging, but their biggest mistake was they underestimated my ability to understand computers.

I was determined not to let my investment go to waste so I started digging on the internet, I basically googled up everything I could find. Eventually I found Nicehash a service provider that lets you mine crypto and pays you in bitcoin. I even introduced this service to my 2 friends seeing as most exchanges only accepted bitcoin to exchange for fiat. They in returned introduced me to Luno which was quite a popular exchange at the time because they offer above market prices for exchanges.

Seeing that I wouldn’t get anywhere on my own with 2 gpu. I decided to introduce crypto and mining to my folks in hopes they could at least profit from it where I couldn’t. I ask my 2 great friends to come up with a 6 GPU rig for my folks and again they dissapoint me by marking up the price by almost 30% and a totally different model of GPU as agreed. Even so my folks paid them with no question asked although I wasn’t too happy with my friends as to how they completely ignored that fact and acted as if nothing has happened.

Fast forward till today I am assembling my own rigs, sourcing my own mining software.I am however still jobless, but I managed to survive on crypto for the past 5 months. I am barely surviving on crypto itself but I am glad I started crypto and mining. I would have lost my house and car ages ago if it had not been for crypto and mining.
