50 year sentence for Fajita theft!

I understand that 1.2 million dollars is a bunch of fajitas and a real penalty is warranted but the 50 year sentence is basically a life sentence at this point. I'd make him pay restitution and work for free at the location he had stolen from on weekends to work off the difference
I believe in punishment for crime I really do, but life sentence is too much.
