I've been saying for the last year that I've been conflicted on the Deshaun Watson case..

I have an unwavering support for due process and the presumption of innocence. Still, it's hard to believe that all twenty-two of his accusers are wrong or lying.

Watson has now had his case presented before two grand juries who decided not to indict him.

Let's really talk about how important that is.

Grand juries just establish probable cause to move forward with indictment. The prosecutor gets to make his or her case for your guilt and you don't really get to refute that argument. Grand juries are so slanted toward the prosecutors that even Kyle Rittenhouse, who was clearly and obviously innocent from day one, still got indicted. The fact that Watson avoided indictment by two different grand juries shows that the prosecution had literally no case.

If course, the burden of proof is lower in civil court; but, that's also where the plaintiffs have everything to gain and nothing to lose while the defendant has everything to lose and little to gain.

Watson could settle, which would be the pragmatic choice; but, most people are ignorant enough to think that a settlement means guilt. He could take it to court and win; but, we all know that the people who already decided that he's guilty won't change their minds. Also, if he fights it in court, that probably means that he's not going to be playing football for another year.

To be clear, regardless of whether or not Watson did what he's accused of, he behaved irresponsibly. Every player in the NFL has massage therapy; but, they have the good sense to use the team's facilities and to not find their massage therapists on Instagram.

All we can do is hope for justice; but, the latest details of this case are raising a lot of questions.
