On Saturday, the 8th we had a great day. We went on a nice photo hunt drive, it was a long long day, we were out for most of it from noon until 9pm. Enough of that lets start the photolog rolling.
This was a challenging day for me, you see I was not driving, we started with a clean windshield, but well the photos are what they are. Also of note all of these were on full manual settings, so the lighting may be off over or underexposed. Not a lot of time either to adjust where the autofocus was going to focus, so for the entire day I took just under 600 pictures. 598 to be exact. These are from the first one hundred, I myself have not even seen what the other pictures look like other than when the thumb nails went flying by during camera off load.
This is the Kasilof River looking south from the bridge as we passed over it at about 50 MPH. The sky color looks a little off and it may be due to me having to decrease the brightness of the image and then from resizing it. The rest of the color looks like it should look and as I remember it through my eyes.
This one I probably should have saved for my treetuesday post, but I do have another in mind for it. Only doing about 45 MPH for this one road construction was coming up soon. I love the play of the light the shadows and the birch tree coloring in this image. I still think it is a shame they use spray-on grass after construction, oh well in 5 years the native Alaskan plants will grow in.
As mentioned, the construction of the road. Every year spring through fall is road construction time, whether it be for repair or for road expansion. There is getting to be more and more traffic on the road coming to the Kenai Peninsula every year, so even though it is annoying, and there are also a lot of road barns to deal with, it is just part of the necessary evil for a mobile leaning population.
After running the cost analysis of the road construction here is one of the many benefits of that road construction, easy and quicker access to locations of rest relaxation and beauty. This is just one picture of one lake located along the hwy or with-in easy hiking distance from the various hiking trail pullouts. With out the roads and the maintenance and the delays only a few select people would ever be able to view the beauty of these mountains.
The famous Kenai River, this view is just before getting into Cooper Landing, a tiny town that caters to the float trippers and the fishers of the Kenai River. There are a few campgrounds that sit along the bank of the Kenai River in this area.
This is the last photo of the post, definitely not the last of the day this pretty much only covered the first hour and a half of our trip. Here is the view coming into or almost at Cooper Landing. You can see the trees are already beginning to catch a hint of color, fall is closing in pretty quickly up here in the North.
All photos were taken by me @bashadow. I hope to be able to get a picture post out on my main page either late this evening or tomorrow. I have a lot of pictures to share, and do not want to flood my gracious supporters with a lot of photo logs. I hope to add a few more photo logs here over the next several days. Like I said that was a 598 picture day, yeah some of them are going to be throwaways, but there are still a lot of nice ones to share. Here and on my main site both.
