The photo was taken in Dec 2014, I was on the Coastal Pacific train returning to Picton to catch a ferry back to Wellington. It was a two hours journey from Kaikoura to Picton, it was so scenic that I ended up spending most of the time standing on the viewing platform. 😅
Unfortunately, the earthquakes in November 2016 caused extensive damage to the rail line between Blenheim and Kaikoura. Heard that the service will resume sometime in mid-2018.
