If you’re in the market to buy a kamado grill, you can’t go wrong with the Kamado Joe Classic. It’s the perfect size for those wanting to experience the culinary wonders of a casserole. You can use it as a grill, smoker, or oven. Plus, it has enough cooking space to feed a regular size family.
The question is which Kamado Joe Classic version you get — I, II or III? All versions feature a thick ceramic coating that is heat-resistant and effective in retaining heat. They all come with a cast iron trolley with locking wheels, a separate heat deflector, a slide-out ash tray, a dual-disc ventilation system, a spring hood, an ash tool, and a cooking thermometer. With each release, you also get an 18-inch 304 stainless steel cooking grid and the Divide & Conquer Flexible Cooking System.
So what is the spread? And which one suits you the most for 2021?
The differences between the Kamado Joe Classic I and II are the ventilation hatch, the firebox, the gasket and the hood. The Kontrol Tower Top Vent is made of powder-coated die-cast aluminum making it resistant to mold and rain. It allows steady airflow and does not lose setting when the cap is lifted. Moreover, it prevents rain from entering the grill. The patented pneumatic lift hinge is optimized to facilitate lifting. You can now do this with just one finger. AMP (Advanced Multi-Panel) firebox consists of six pieces that enable the firebox to bend under the heat without causing damage to the material. This prevents the firebox from cracking during high heat sessions. Finally, the double thickness fiberglass gasket still provides your grill with a superior seal, but it has a longer life, 10 times longer than the average gasket.
How about the Kamado Joe Classic III?
This release also comes with several upgrades that a serious griller will appreciate. It features an updated Divide & Conquer flexible cooking system. Instead of 2 tiers, this newer version has 3 layers split shelves. This means you can cook different foods at different temperatures using different techniques — all at the same time. Another upgrade in the Kamado Joe Classic III is the SloRoller Hyperbolic Smoke Chamber, which was created with an attachment that increases smoke circulation for a more flavorful meal. The cart has also been upgraded; It’s now made of heavy duty galvanized steel for increased durability. The shelves are now made of aluminum. You also get a bottom shelf as well as a charcoal basket with divider.
So which is better?
The Kamado Joe Classic I is best for those on a budget. Even without the bells and whistles (also known as upgrades), this model actually exceeds expectations. It does not require as much investment as others but it still performs better compared to other Kamado Grills in the market. Moreover, you can actually get the upgrades separately and install them in Classic I once you have the budget for that. But if you have enough cash to spare now, we recommend going for the Kamado Joe Classic II. The upgrades are nice to have in version 3, but they aren’t necessary to produce high-quality barbecues. It definitely doesn’t seem like it’s worth the extra $ 400.
