The Be’eri kibbutz was one of the first places attacked by Hamas. Hamas hid by the gate and waited for a car to arrive and open it, and then killed everyone in the car before entering the community. About 11% of the community was killed in the attack.
Unfortunately for one father his 8 year old daughter was staying at a friend's house when Hamas attacked. He couldn't reach her and waited for the Israeli military to arrive, but they didn't arrive for many hours. When finding out his daughter was killed he was relieved, knowing at least she wasn't in Hamas captivity.
For another family, they barricaded themselves in their safe room with their children for 20 hours until the military was finally able to secure their house. While they waited, their parents at another house would be killed by Hamas that had entered their safe room.
