What’s up folks?
I have no idea how many of you sweet Steemians live in the greatest music city on earth—New Orleans—but I think it would be great to find out and put together a meetup. If you’re in the Crescent City, drop a line below and depending on how many of us there are, maybe we can put together a meetup.
AND… if you’re Big Easy Livin’ and fux with Indie hip-hop, come out tomorrow night (April 18th) to Poor Boys on St Bernard.
We’ve got a dope line-up of artists coming together to celebrate the end of Jonathan Brown’s Indiegogo campaign, and the release of his record Aggressively Vulnerable.
If you like Indie rap, spoken word, poetry, and just straight up good writing, I implore you to check out the homie Jonathan Brown. He’s a South Carolina native with an MFA in poetry from the University of New Orleans, who just got off a 40 day tour throughout the US and is headed back on the road next week. If you want to be an Indie rapper or poet, he’s the man to check out. He's been killin' pads and rockin' stages all over the US for years now.
Check out this [live session(
He's even got reviews of the new album!
And last but not least, I think it's about time I start publishing more of my lyrics and music on Steemit so y'all can see I don't just write blisteringly hilarious "travel articles" like this and dis.
So without further ado, here's my entry for this weeks #killthepad competition. This is my first ever Steemit competition, oh my!
Lonely Man
(verse 1)
Here we go, again. Lonely man with his only pen.
He came from another land to play the hand
That was dealt to him.
—morning meditations on a mountaintop.
Shawl wrapped ‘round his shoulders—stop.
He thinks again. Sin, it’s so hard to let you go,
You’ve been a good friend. But it starts
with the hands cupped over the heart
And ends something like a headstand.
Oh shanti, let me in.
If I flip my perspective will I understand?
I’m an honest man. And honesty has showed me
I’m a broken man.
I roll hope with zig-zags and blow smoke with friends.
I mold hope in love-laughs and inhale peace within…
Inhale peace within.
Verse 2
Puff puff pass.
Time turns what matters into ash.
Still I wanna laugh with her again.
I guess that means I want the past back again.
Who will show me the map to Zen?
Future-Past mix my Present in a deadly blend.
Tongue-tied behind my back, I’m but half of what I coulda been.
I knew the night last night until a burst of light
Gave sight and lit this light within.
It breaks my lips to feel a star grow dim.
It stars my hips to hear a wave breaking.
