RIP My Dear Little Friend Kindle Fire

What a day. For many, the eclipse has come and gone. For others, it’s on the way. I have spent the majority of my morning on chat with Amazon trying to troubleshoot a problem with my Kindle Fire. I knew I was probably going to have to replace it when I was transferred without warning to the tech side of things.
My perception was accurate. The Amazon customer service was exceptional. In spite of what I’ve read, I have always been pleased with their offer to resolve a dilemma. I pray that I’m not jinxing things. But, as with life, everything is temporary. I’ve had this little friend for six wonderful years; so, I could not complain, considering some have reported theirs lasted less than three months. I hope that’s not the new normal for these gadgets; but, with the price as it is, less than $60. for the one I’m considering buying, makes me not too alarmed at a less than stellar review. With a year’s warranty, it’s worth the buy.
I love to read and right now I am feeling a bit of withdrawal, as you might imagine. Thankfully, or not so, I backed up everything before doing the factory reset. I say perhaps not so; because, on attempting to do the factory reset, bad only got worse. The reason for the reset is that it began to have a mind of its own; and, well, pages started turning, apps started opening and closing, the swipe mechanism froze, on and on. I realized that it was probably a hardware issue, so after trying a few procedures and receiving the ‘news’ it wasn’t really surprising.
If I can offer a giveaway for taking up your time, may I recommend that you think twice, if you’re having hardware issues with a device. Doing a factory reset may make bad worse. Ultimately, it’s all part of the inevitable need to replace, so, I would recommend delaying the reset until you’ve retrieved the most important info, (i.e. phone numbers, addresses, etc.). As noted, I have everything on backup; but, while I’m waiting for the new one to arrive I will be without all of my data.
This is a wonderful little gadget if you’re shopping for a tablet. It has served me now for several years; without even so much as a frozen screen. So, I highly recommend this if you’re shopping for a new device.
