The Bible tells us how was the Reign of Rehoboam, the son of Solomon. Rehoboam was not wise like Solomon, nor fearful of God like his grandfather David, his inability to know how to listen was what led to the division between the kingdoms of Judah and Israel after the Assembly of Shechem.
The life of Rehoboam due to his mistakes brought many problems to his nation, and an old teaching was fulfilled with Rehoboam: "Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm" Proverbs 13:20.
The Bible tells us that Rehoboam did not follow the Law of the Lord with his heart, and forgot the pact made with God through the prophet Moses, and this brought with it the misfortune of war:
"After Rehoboam's position as king was established and he had become strong, he and all Israel with him abandoned the law of the LORD. Because they had been unfaithful to the LORD, Shishak king of Egypt attacked Jerusalem in the fifth year of King Rehoboam" 2 Chronicles 12:1-2.
The King of Egypt did not destroy the kingdom of Judah, but temporarily occupied the country, and plundered it, taking all valuables, including those in the temple. For these facts the Lord made known his displeasure to the prophet Shemaiah: "So that they may learn the difference between serving me and serving the kings of other lands" 2 Chronicles 12:8.
Due to the hardness of his heart, Roboam could not intelligently understand the problems of his Kingdom and thus another teaching was fulfilled: "The wise have eyes in their heads, while the fool walks in the darkness", Ecclesiastes 2:14.
The Bible summed up all the actions of this king with a simple teaching: "He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the LORD" 2 Chronicles 12:14. The Bible with the life of Rehoboam explains to us that we cannot receive the blessings of the Lord if we live like fools.
