I’ve been taking it easy in Kingston after having first arrived in Montego Bay a couple of weeks ago. Ever since my mistake the first night I figured I should limit my exposure to risks. It makes me feel more like a responsible adult. I mean there is rarely need to put yourself in a situation you are likely to regret. So be smart. Be responsible. Make wise decisions.
Which decisions I made on the first day of my arrival in Montego Bay? A few less rational ones, I suppose.
First I decided to rush to the store before they closed to get some beer. I went out without Internet, without a map, without knowing the adress of the hostel and with not much more than the clothes on my back, a credit card and my phone.
Secondly, in my excitement of having found the store (and gotten supplies!), I decided to wander off somewhat aimlessly, instead of putting my attention on something important (like which way to go).
Thirdly, I thought it was a good idea to let myself be convinced into a taxi to ”get there faster” even though I really didn’t know where ”there” was.
From here I feel like my bad decisions took a bit of a break. Instead circumstances put me in interesting situations. When I was picked up by the taxi I was about 10 minutes from home, walking distance. About 5 hours later I had been driven around in the taxi, not being able to find the place, not having to pay for the taxi but being dropped of (heavily disoriented), wandered for hours, drunk the beer (for more reasonable weight distribution), had a nap in a ditch, woke up, be more or less attacked by quite aggressive guard dogs (who also did a great job of alerting every other dog in the nearby neighborhoods), be picked up by the police, driven to my hostel, escorted to my tent in the hostel-backyard, having all my belongings searched by the 3 officers who came in with drawn guns and rifles (rather threatening) and finally managed to get some proper sleep.
So these past weeks I haven’t been doing much. Just staying out of trouble, you know.
Talk soon! Some exciting news on the land coming up, I hope.
Peace
