They had grown up together, and his home had become like a second one to her, a place she could come and go freely.
When had she ever needed to knock for him to open the door?
Wait, no. Something felt off.
Yin Shaojie caught a faint scent of something amiss. His eyes narrowed slightly, fixing on her with suspicion. "Which one of my homes are you referring to? You don’t mean... the apartment I’m currently living in, do you?"
Xiao Xiao nodded nonchalantly. "Yes, of course. Why else would I look for you? Are you stupid or something?"
She cast him a condescending look, as though his question were the height of idiocy.
It was such a nonsensical question—why would she need to look for him if she were at Yin’s house?
Yin Shaojie’s expression faltered. His brow furrowed as he applied more pressure to her shoulder, leaning in with an air of suspicion. "What do you want at my apartment? It’s so late—if you’re just looking for a place to stay, you could have gone to my mother’s place. Why come to me?"
Though he had an inkling that something was wrong, he was reluctant to confirm it. He desperately wished he were mistaken.
Xiao Xiao stared at him, her lips curling into a mischievous smile. "Ah, so you still don’t know you’ve been played by Aunt Yin. Don’t worry, I’m a victim too. I understand how you feel."
Yin Shaojie’s face darkened. "What the hell? What’s going on? Spit it out!"
"From today onward, we’re..." Xiao Xiao was about to say that they were now engaged and would live together.
However, as they stepped out of the bar, a person suddenly charged toward them, interrupting her words.
"You little brat, give me back my money!"
It was the lecherous driver.
Xiao Xiao remembered the way he had leered at her earlier. Her face reddened with anger as she glared at him.
"You still want money? What, are you planning to buy yourself a coffin with it?" she said, coldly smiling at the driver.
Yin Shaojie, who had been expecting an explanation from her, was caught off guard by this sudden interruption. His face immediately darkened, and he glared at the driver. "Who the hell are you?"
The driver immediately sensed that this was a wealthy young man, exuding an air of nobility and power. He knew better than to provoke someone like him.
He quickly changed his demeanor, adopting a warm smile as he addressed Yin Shaojie. "Young master, it’s like this—this lady here took my cab, but she didn’t pay. So, I was wondering if she could settle the fare?"
Xiao Xiao crossed her arms, her voice icy. "This uncle here, just earlier, was asking me to let him feel me up as payment for the ride."
The driver broke into a cold sweat, offering an awkward laugh. "T-That’s a misunderstanding! Really, just a misunderstanding! Miss, you must have misheard. I merely suggested that you leave something as collateral while you went to find your friends to settle the payment."
"Heh, a misunderstanding?" Xiao Xiao gave him a sharp, skeptical look.
Yin Shaojie, hearing her words, instinctively glanced at her chest. It was then that he realized she was wearing a tight-fitting tank top, her figure outlined perfectly. The sight was enough to make one’s nose bleed.
He clicked his tongue, then muttered, "Xiao Xiao, when did you develop like this? What have you been eating over there in the States?"
He distinctly remembered calling her "little one" not long ago. Now, she was anything but.
Xiao Xiao nudged him with her elbow, glaring at him.
She was so tired, all she wanted was to go back and sleep!
