Fear of AI - Musk & Hawkins versus KurzweilsteemCreated with Sketch.

Singularity may be almost around the corner now. Guys like Ray Kurzweil believe this will only take another 15 to 20 years. As you may know, Elon Musk, Stephan Hawkins, Bill Gates are warning us what this could do the humanity; AI erasing us! Reason for Elon Musk to setup Open AI, a non-profit organisation to research a safe path for AI and human race; and Neuralink, to integrate computers with human brains to keep humans relevant in a world of super intelligent AI.

Are the things Elon and others are setting up and executing the things that are required to bring us from fearing AI towards an integrated world of AI and humans such like Kurzweil is simple stating this will happen?

Watch the interview with Ray Kurzweil from his Google office in February this year.

I just think Ray Kurzweil is taking it a little bit too easy stating that any new radical changes go through the same paterns in almost an automatic way:

  1. loving it
  2. fearing it
  3. living with it as it is normal

It is the step from 2 to 3 many of the big guys in research and industry are afraid of, especially when AI will get more intelligent than humans, like Kurzweil believes in. Today you already see issues with "who is responsible when a Tesla car drives itself of the road into some obstruction" and "who is responsible when a robot in a mall drives/falls over a child with some harm to the child", both are real cases now, since both did happen. That is were (for sure) the law is not quick enough to react at this stage.

I agree. No one can predict the depth of the changes that will come about from this wave of technology. I predict, as in past waves, the reality will fall somewhere between the two extremes. That said, I believe that A.I., advanced robotics, and V.R. are going to have a larger impact on humanity than the Industrial Revolution. It's going to be a wild ride, much of which we'll need to figure out in reverse. Great post!

I fully agree. When counting 'technology revolutions' we are at number 4 (after industrial, electronics and internet), and this one will be the most impacting to us humans as well as to the systems we have build up. The tremendous impact that i'll have has also to do with how fast this will develop! not in 10s of years, but can be much much quicker than that do to the ever increasing (exponential curve) of computation power and the availability of instant communication of machines and humans using the internet.

I usually first fear the thought of change , then I conquer that scared cat ...try to get familiar with and at the end I love it too much that I get bored and look for more change 👻

hahahaha, already a bit more innovation approach then most of us humans, most want to stick to what they know for the rest of their lives.

Not meee

Wow! That's very very incredible ....watching now again because some things I can't understand

In principle Kurzweil is stating the transition from Fear to Adoption and Acceptance + Harmonious existence of AI and Humans will go more or less automatic, ie FEAR is normal, but will fade away. Musk and others think AI can be so influential on human existence that we have to act and define and program rules into AI to be able to live harmonious with AI.

I get it after watching 3 times

Great! :) Time well spend!
