Hemis Festival at Ladakh

Ladakh is immersed in festivities during June due to the famous Hemis festival. Some believe it to be a predominantly religious affair but it is also a grand cultural fiesta. The epicenter of the festivities is the Hemis Gompa at the largest Buddhist Monastery in Ladakh. The local lamas masquerade as artists and perform to the folk music. The monastery resounds with the soulful music as the artistes perform elaborate dance rituals. Tourists from all over the world come to attend the Hemis festival which is dedicated to Lord Padmasambhava and are spellbound with the blend of spirituality and festivities.
