Foregrounds Can Be Confounding

The sun sets over the boulder beach at Mullaghmore, Co. Sligo.

There is more to creating foreground interest in a landscape photograph than just finding some rocks to stick at the bottom of the frame. It can be quite a search to find the right cluster of objects, be they rocks, stones, sticks, whatever. Ask Joe Cornish, a renowned landscape photographer who kindly wrote the foreword to my first book, 'The Irish Light'. Joe is a master of the foreground and takes great care in finding the right composition.

This picture is a nod to his work. I enjoy the serenity of the image and the difference between the colour palettes of the top and bottom halves of the photograph.
