Langkawi is an archipelago made up of 99 islands on Malaysia's west coast. Surrounded by turquoise sea, the interior of interior of the main island is a mixture of picturesque paddy fields and jungle-clad hills. If you’re intent on carting off duty-free alcohol, cigarettes and chocolate, then this is the place to be. Still, nature lovers will find the island just as agreeable as the shoreline is fringed by powder-fine sand and swaying coconut trees.
Langkawi’s name is believed to have originated from the abundance of eagles on the island and the geological wonder of its landscape. By putting together ‘helang’ (eagle in Malay) and ‘kawi’ (marble in Sanskrit), you get the moniker ‘helang-kawi’ which was eventually toned down to Langkawi
The best attractions areSeven Wells, Langkawi Cable Car, Kilim Geoforest Park boat tour, Eagle & Lagenda Park, Tumerun Waterfall, Durian Waterfall, exploring the inlands on a motorcycle, visiting some of the nice temples, eating out at the many hawkers or food courts, Underwater World and the secluded beaches (and Black Sand Beach) at the north side of the island
