Ooooh, the language barrier! In english! We live in a dynamic universe! It's not all black and white - it's shades of grey!
First off science v.s. religion is bogus. In the mainstream - fundamentalists all! The myth of science as savior - no! it's a method! not a philosophy on how to live. Yet they try! Treat people as just chemical reactions, within a photograph the earth becomes a piece of art - a mere object. Existence and the fluidity of life is more complex than any equation or picture. That's not to say that science isn't important but it has been mythologized.
I want to get into this topic more. It's on the tip of my tongue. It's difficult to talk in alternate ways when it seems not many in the social environment seem able to step back. Step back from their beliefs, their biases, what they've taken for granted. To me it is a language barrier. Our modern language has a tendency to label all phenomena - to objectify it, and our language follows that path.
(cant think of many examples...) an example could be .... sex. You hear people say lets have sex. When are we going to do it? I wanna get laid! etc. Now sexual intimacy is a dynamic and fluid act, it is a way of bonding with someone. Yet in the language we treat this action as object by saying - have sex, get laid, do it... as if it were an obtainable object in our hands. An alternative could be to say - when are we going to engage in sensual relations?, I desire intimacy - instead of get laid. I think it's part of a chauvanistic conceit - we use macho man words - the object ones, maybe the action words seem to wimpy - but they are truer to reality. It's a way of thinking to be overcome for the better I think.
Haha, instead of saying I'm having a smoke I usually say - I'm ingesting carcinogens.
