Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are the best people to deal with, however there are somethings you may want to know:
The first is they don't drink. If you were at a party and threw up there, don't tell them. When they throw up they are always sick. They won't find it funny, just upsetting. They will feel bad you were sick, despite bringing that 'illness' on yourself. It will always make for an awkward conversation. Many of them have never drank at all. Most drinkers will tell a story which is simply a summary of all the drinks they had one night at different places. This type of story will bore them. Think of drinking prune juice at 5 different places downtown, and telling everyone about it. It is the same to them, a real snooze-a-thon.
When they talk about trials be aware these are challenges they are having in relation to following the Commandments, a struggle with their faith, or their general conditions. When me and my friends talk about a trial, we are dealing with a prosecutor, jury, and a public defender. Everyone has trials. Don't discount the struggles they have. They won't make light of yours, which is perfectly OK to tell them about. They likely will pray for you. You will likely have a miracle. These are the people in the Book of Acts. I could tell right away by how they treat their children.
Many of the members of the Church of Jesus Christ have pioneer ancestors that made it to the West on the Mormon Trail. The stories of this epic journey are usually handed down by word of mouth from generation to generation. Ask them if they are related to pioneers and hopefully you will have an opportunity to hear a true story of enduring extreme challenges getting West. Stories of nature and wild beats and mountains. There should be more movies about the companies of wagons that trickled West for so many years.
They are not like one of the many large community churches in your neighborhood. Traveling and out of gas? Hit up a community church first. They are far more likely to hand out dollars.
Note: Often community churches will give out more money than necessary which will actually harm someone who is addicted to drugs or alcohol.
Instead of valuing drugs, these modern Saints value prayer which is directed to God the Father and done in Jesus name. The key to praying with them is to be aware that it takes a little bit of time to feel comfortable. It becomes much easier if you are in the habit of praying each day. They are not going to ask you to pray out loud for quite a while. They can sense your level of spiritual maturity and want you to be comfortable. They also want you to pray everyday, which you should consider doing if you are not already.
Another thing you should consider is reading The Book of Mormon everyday. I enjoy the Book of Mosiah more than the other books so far.

They will give you a free copy of the Book of Mormon and will probably be able to answer all of your questions. Just be aware they don't have all the answers.
If you haven't had any interactions with these members of the Church of Jesus Christ, I realize you might expect they are nice. What I promise you is that they are far nicer than you can imagine. Everyone who I was able to talk into going to Sacrament meeting has said, "They are SO nice!" I did my best to explain how nice they are. It is an impossible goal.
