Cherry laurel, with the botanical name prunus laurocerasus, is a species of evergreen cherry native to areas adjacent to the Black Sea in southwest Asia and southeast Europe.
It is also called common laurel, sometimes also known as English laurel in North America.
It is an evergreen shrub or small to medium sized tree, 5 to 15 meters tall.
The species name laurocerasus indicates that its leaves are similar to laurel (laurus nobilis), but the two are not closely related.
Cherry laurel are widely grown for cultivation in gardens and parks in warm climates around the world.
