Japanese cheesewood, scientific name pittosporum tobira, is a species of fragrant flowering plant in the family pittosporaceae.

Also known by several names, including Australian laurel, Japanese pittosporum, mock orange, it is a woody, evergreen shrub reaching 10 m tall and 3 m wide.

The leaves are elliptic, with downward curving edges, and reach 10 cm long. The surface is rough and hairless, and the upper surface is dark and shiny.

This plant is native to Japan (southern Kanto region), China, Taiwan, and Korea, but is used worldwide as an ornamental plant for cut foliage and landscaping.

Japanese cheesewood grows in forests, on slopes, in limestone areas, on sandy beaches, and along roadsides.
