Chinese privet, with the scientific name Ligustrum lucidum, is a species of flowering plant in the olive family Moraceae, native to southern China and naturalized in many places.
Also called broad-leaf privet, glossy privet, tree privet or wax-leaf privet, it is a tall evergreen tree that can grow up to 10 meters tall.
The leaves are glossy dark green, opposite, 6-17 cm long and 3-8 cm wide.
In traditional Chinese medicine, the seeds are known as nu zhen zi (female chastity seed) and are believed to nourish the liver and kidneys yin and jing.
