Japanese photinia, scientifically known as photinia glabra, is a small evergreen tree in the rosaceae family.
It is from the western part of the Tokai region of Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu in Japan.
The leaves have elliptical strands 5 to 10 cm long, with a coarse, glossy surface and fine serrations at the leaf edges.
The fruit is round, blackish purple at the tip, and ripe red.
This plant also grows naturally in the People's Republic of China (southeastern and south-central regions), Thailand, and Burma, in addition to Japan, and is also found in Korea and the United States (Louisiana).
