Pūriri, whose scientific name is vitex lucens, is an evergreen tree native to New Zealand.
It typically grows up to 20 meters tall, with a trunk up to 1.5 meters thick and a broad crown.
The leaves are glossy dark green and palmate with five or sometimes three lobes.
The Maori used boiled leaf water to relieve sprains, sore backs, and sore throats.
