Aloe vera, whose scientific name is also aloe vera, is a type of succulent plant of the genus aloe, native to the southeastern Arabian Peninsula in the Al Hajar Mountains of northeastern Oman.
It is a stemless or very short-stemmed plant that grows 60 to 100 cm tall and spreading.
The leaves are thick and fleshy, green to gray-green in color, with white spots on the top and bottom of the stem, depending on the variety.
Aloe vera gel is used commercially as an ingredient in yogurt, drinks, and some desserts, but ingesting large amounts or long periods of aloe vera sap or leaf extract can be toxic.
