The American papaw, whose botanical name is asimina triloba, is a small deciduous tree native to the eastern United States and Canada.
It is also called pawpaw, paw paw, or paw-paw, among many other regional names, and produces large yellow-green to brown fruits.
The leaves are large and grow in symmetrical clusters at the ends of the branches, giving it a distinctive overlapping appearance.
The fruit is a large liquid berry with soft edible flesh and contains several brown or black seeds.
