Bird's nest fern, scientifically known as asplenium nidus, is a species of epiphytic fern in the family aspleniaceae.
It is native to tropical Southeast Asia, eastern Australia, Hawaii, Polynesia, Christmas Island, India, and eastern Africa.
The plant is found in its natural habitat in tropical mountain forests, but is widely cultivated in warmer climates as an ornamental plant.
Bird's nest fern forms a large, simple midrib resembling a banana leaf, reaching 50-150 cm long and 10-20 cm wide.
These plants can survive as epiphytes or land plants, but usually grow on organic matter.
