Black poplar, whose scientific name is populus nigra, is a type species of the Aigeiros subgroup of the poplar genus native to Europe, southwest and central Asia, and northwest Africa.
It is a medium to large deciduous tree, reaching a height of 20 to 30 meters, sometimes 40 meters.
The leaves are rhombic to triangular and green on both sides.
This tree is a common poplar in southwestern Asia and southeastern Europe (Balkans), introduced during the Ottoman Empire.
